The project is called Villas on the Park. Currently in its fourth month of construction, the foundation and ground floor concrete are already complete, and it's about ready for the concrete podium to be poured above the ground floor. The project will eventually reach six stories, housing 84 studio apartments, a parking garage, rooftop deck, and finished with a gorgeous modern façade and landscape design. "This is far from a typical homeless shelter," says construction project manager Steve Carlquist, with Brown Construction, "it will be a beautiful building the whole team can be proud of."
The project, which is developed by San Diego-based Affirmed Housing, has partnered with the non-profit PATH, to provide wraparound on-site services for the 84 formerly homeless individuals who will live at Villas on the Park. Those services include basic needs such as clothing, food, and hygiene items; empowerment training such as cooking classes and finance workshops; and transportation to appointments and job interviews. The goal is to bring people off the streets and empower them so that they can eventually move on to an affordable apartment of their own and break the cycle of homelessness.
In his remarks, Jim Silverwood of Affirmed Housing acknowledged Brown Construction as the general contractor on the project. "I am pleased to report that to date they are right on schedule, so we're certainly pleased with their progress," said Silverwood, thanking the Brown Construction team.
